Surprisingly bad quality

30 pages in the middle of the book are smaller, cut on the bias and stuck together. Definitely not getting a replacement book. What I saw of the book, not worth the price. Too many recipes not of any interest to us.
One of my favorite cooking shows., always interesting recipes and stories behind the recipes

I subscribed to Cook's Illustrated for years and was never disappointed. When a friend kept raving about Cook's Country, their cookbook, and their recipes (and raved and raved and raved – every recipe they had tried was fantastic), I decided I needed to try the 10th edition – awesome, yeah! And then, I saw the one with 12 seasons! I admit, I handed off my 10th to my sister-of-the-heart and grabbed the 12th. I'm kinda picky about cookbooks, so I looked through it carefully when it showed up. While I wish it were a hardback, the paper is a good quality, the binding seems sturdy, and I think it will hold up for quite a while, as my older one was definitely hanging in there. There are plenty of full-color pictures of finished dishes – which I absolutely love and feel is required to help with the preparation and presentation of the various dishes, details of instructions, etc. The font is small but still easy to read, and the layout has a nice amount of white space to make it easy to glance through a recipe as you are cooking it. There are sections on equivalents, shopping for kitchen gear and appliances, ingredients, and explanations/short descriptions for all. Based on the level of instructions, this is a very easy cookbook for beginner or novice readers to follow. What’s best about this cookbook for many of us is that the recipes are for dishes that we grew up with, cooked by our parents and grandparents. They’re refined and tested for the modern kitchen with cooking tips and explanations for why the recipe was tweaked. This is a great cookbook full of regional comfort foods and down-home cooking. So many dishes that my family never had “recipes” for as Grandma just cooked so many things without reading a recipe and never writing anything down. It was the dishes she cooked the most that didn’t make it into her recipe box. Here they are, ready for my family now.Sections include: As Good as Grandma’s, Fork-in-the-Road Favorites, Steakhouse Specials, Our Sunday Best, Tex-Mex Favorites, Everybody Loves Italian, The State of Grilling, Rise-and-Shine Breakfast and Breads, Great American Cakes and Cookies, Old-Fashioned Fruit Desserts and Puddings, and Save Room for Pie. Additional sections include: Shopping for Equipment, Stocking Your Pantry, Episode Directory, and Conversions and Equivalents.Overall, an awesome cookbook to add to anyone’s collections, foodies included.Let Amazon donate to your favorite charity! I really enjoyed looking through this HUGE cookbook, seeing in writing the recipes I had seen demonstrated on Cook's Country TV, of which I am a big fan of, and have been for many years, as well as America's Test Kitchen, both on PBS.This cookbook will literally take both of your hands to pick up. It's very heavy, and 803 pages long! I have never had a cookbook this huge before! I do wish that this cookbook was in hardcover tho, instead of paperback. This is one cookbook that will get a lot of use! This cookbook is full of BBQ recipes, comfort foods, as well as mouthwatering desserts, and everything in between. Each recipe is on two pages. One page has the ingredients necessary to make each recipe, step by step instructions, name brand product suggestions and substitutions, as well as different cooking methods. The second page tells you why the recipe works, but hands down my favorite part, is that each recipe shows you a close up of the finished recipe. It will either make your mouth drool, or make you hungry, or both, or make you want to get cooking! The photos are top notch! There are also name brand ingredients suggestions, as well as kitchen equipment suggestions. Oxo and Kitchen Aid are always favorites.I prefer watching cooks over professional chefs. Even tho I am no novice when it comes to cooking, watching Bridget Lancaster or Julia Collin Davison on Cook's Country TV or America's Test Kitchen, they both make cooking and learning fun, doable, and not intimidating, even if you are new to cooking. I particularly enjoy Bridget Lancaster's laid back style, but both she and Julia know cooking inside and out. There is probably nothing or very little that they don't know about cooking, even the science behind it. Together they remind me of sister's, and are very enjoyable to watch. So, whether you just enjoy looking through cookbooks for the fun of it, or to get ideas, or your a person who enjoys following recipes, you will LOVE this cookbook. There is tons of inspiration waiting for you!
